Senior Bioinformatician - Genomics

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Bioinformatician with a specialization in Genomics to join their innovative research team in Paarl . This role is integral to unlocking insights from large-scale genomic datasets, supporting critical research and development initiatives. You will develop and implement computational pipelines, analyze genomic data, and collaborate with biologists and researchers to drive discoveries. • Develop, optimize, and maintain computational pipelines for the analysis of next-generation sequencing (NGS) data, including whole-genome, exome, and RNA-seq.
• Perform statistical analysis of genomic data to identify genetic variations, gene expression patterns, and functional associations.
• Collaborate with experimental biologists and clinicians to design genomic studies and interpret results in biological context.
• Implement and utilize various bioinformatics tools and databases for sequence alignment, variant calling, and pathway analysis.
• Contribute to the development of novel algorithms and computational methods for genomic data analysis.
• Communicate complex findings clearly through reports, presentations, and visualizations to diverse audiences.

• Ph.D. or Master's degree in Bioinformatics , Computational Biology, Computer Science, Genetics, or a related quantitative field.
• Minimum of 4 years of hands-on experience in bioinformatics , with a strong focus on genomic data analysis .
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R, and experience with bioinformatics scripting.
• Familiarity with standard bioinformatics tools and databases (e.g., BLAST, GATK, Ensembl, UCSC Genome Browser).
• Experience with high-performance computing environments and cloud platforms is advantageous.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with excellent communication and teamwork abilities in a hybrid setting in Paarl .
