Job SummaryThe skilled Cytotechnologist is responsible for staining, mounting, and studying cells of the human body under a microscope to detect evidence of precancerous, malignant, and infectious conditions. The Cytotechnologist is responsible for performing a variety of complex laboratory test and procedures on patients of all ages according to established protocols.
Essential Functions- Provides patient clinical data or microscopic findings to assist pathologists in the preparation of pathology reports
- Mounts, stains, and examines smears under a microscope to evaluate specimen quality and recommends acceptance or rejection to Pathologist
- Maintains effective laboratory operations by adhering to standards of specimen collection, preparation, or laboratory safety
- Classifies and distinguishes abnormal cell structures and reports abnormalities to Pathologists for further examination
- Documents data from analysis of medical tests and clinical results into the hospital system for patient record
- Monitors inventory of supplies, equipment, and reagents used, and places orders for replacements as required
- Other duties as assigned
- Bachelor’s Degree in Science:
Biology, Chemistry, or Medical Laboratory Sciences, required - Completion of Cytotechnology Program, required
- Cytotechnologist (CT) Certification by a nationally recognized certification agency (preferably ASCP), is required
- Three years of Clinical Lab experience preferred
- Ability to work independently within a team and strong attention to detail
- Ability to provide quality, error‑free work in a fast‑paced environment
- Engage with staff and patients in a professional manner
