Lumera Healthcare is seeking a compassionate, dependable, and motivated Medical Assistant to join our team. This position works closely with our medical providers and clinical staff to support efficient patient care, accurate documentation, and an exceptional patient experience.
Key ResponsibilitiesThe Medical Assistant provides direct support to medical providers and helps coordinate day-to-day clinical operations. Primary responsibilities include:
- Assist medical providers with incoming phone and fax requests, including medication refill requests.
- Maintain timely and accurate documentation in patient records and facility databases.
- Communicate effectively with providers, nursing staff, patients, pharmacies, and other appropriate personnel.
- Prepare patients and exam rooms for appointments, procedures, and clinical services.
- Obtain and document vital signs, medical histories, symptoms, medications, insurance information, and changes in patient conditions.
- Assist providers during routine examinations, outpatient procedures, and other clinical services.
- Collect and prepare appropriate specimens for laboratory analysis as directed.
- Prepare and administer medications under the direction of a supervising physician or nurse practitioner and within the employee's permitted scope of practice.
- Schedule patients accurately according to practice guidelines and protocols.
- Assist with patient check-in and check-out and other daily office activities as needed.
- Contact insurance companies to verify benefits, copayments, and deductibles and assist with required prior authorizations.
- Maintain accurate patient and staff records and correct documentation errors when identified.
- Protect confidential medical, personal, financial, and employment information in accordance with HIPAA and Lumera policies.
- Provide compassionate, professional support to patients throughout their visits.
- Assist with patient concerns and complaints and communicate opportunities for process improvement.
- Attend required staff meetings and training and maintain knowledge of Lumera policies and procedures.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Medical Assistant experience preferred
- Medical Assistant certification preferred
- Behavioral health or outpatient healthcare experience is a plus
- Strong communication and patient-service skills
- Excellent organization and attention to detail
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced healthcare environment
- Comfortable using electronic health records and other computer systems
- Dependable, professional, compassionate, and team-oriented
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
