QA Manager - Overview

The QA Manager is responsible for leading all Quality Assurance activities within Torbay Pharmaceuticals. The role ensures products are produced consistently to the required quality standards, compliance is maintained, and the QA team is effectively guided and developed.

Responsibilities
  • Lead, coach, and develop the QA team, providing day‑to‑day leadership and support to other areas.
  • Ensure all QA resources are optimised and utilised to meet financial expectations and budget.
  • Provide senior QA oversight for sterile manufacturing operations, including formulation, filling, and packaging.
  • Manage batch documentation reviews and ensure products presented to the release team meet GMP expectations.
  • Ensure Right‑First‑Time (RFT) batch release performance against agreed service‑level agreements or targets.
  • Conduct performance reviews, training plans, and competency assessments.
  • Foster a proactive, collaborative, and accountable quality culture.
  • Oversee the investigation of deviations, out‑of‑specification (OOS) results, and customer complaints and act as a point of escalation.
  • Drive root‑cause analyses and implement robust Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA).
  • Provide real‑time QA support to manufacturing operations, ensuring compliance with GMP and internal quality standards.
  • Oversee batch record review, line clearance, in‑process checks, and product release support.
  • Lead or support root‑cause investigations and ensure effective CAPA implementation.
  • Monitor and escalate quality risks, ensuring appropriate mitigation actions.
  • Support internal and external audits, including regulatory inspections and hosting of audits.
  • Maintain and improve SOPs, work instructions, and quality procedures relevant to manufacturing operations.
  • Ensure documentation accuracy, traceability, and data integrity.
  • Identify and drive improvements in quality processes, shop‑floor controls, and product reliability.
  • Oversee quality‑focused improvement projects using structured methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, 5‑Why, and FMEA.
  • Analyse quality KPIs and trends to proactively address systemic issues.
  • Produce reports and KPIs to demonstrate compliance of operational performance at the site.
  • Promote right‑first‑time performance and reduction of waste, rework, and deviations.
  • Partner with Production, Engineering, Supply Chain, and R&D to ensure quality is embedded in all activities.
  • Support change control processes, ensuring quality impact assessments are completed.
  • Provide QA input for equipment upgrades, process changes, and new product introductions.
  • Liaise with other key managers to ensure continued compliance and escalation, including QC, Manufacturing Operations, Supply Chain, and QPs.
  • Put Health & Safety first by acting in ways that support a safe working environment, promptly reporting hazards, and following all procedures.
Qualifications
  • Degree or practical experience in Chemistry, Microbiology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related discipline.
  • 5+ years experience in QA, production, or packaging.
  • Strong knowledge of GMP and manufacturing.
  • Experience handling manufacturing deviations, including risk assessments and CAPA planning.
  • Exceptional root‑cause analysis, critical decision‑making, and strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Cross‑functional team working ability.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build relationships with senior colleagues across all areas of the business.
