Position SummaryThe Direct Support Professional (DSP) provides essential support, supervision, and care to individuals with developmental disabilities in residential and community settings. This role focuses on promoting independence, ensuring health and safety, encouraging community inclusion, and supporting individuals in achieving their personal goals. The DSP must be reliable, compassionate, and able to maintain professional boundaries at all times.
This position requires a valid driver's license and the ability to transport individuals safely using a personal or agency-approved vehicle.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Provide direct care and supervision based on each individual's ISP (Individual Service Plan)
- Support individuals with daily living skills, including:
- Meal preparation
- Personal hygiene
- Dressing and grooming
- Housekeeping and laundry
- Medication reminders or administration (if certified)
- Transport individuals to appointments, community outings, and activities using a personal or company vehicle
- Assist individuals in accessing community resources, building social skills, and participating in meaningful activities
- Follow all safety procedures, including emergency protocols and individual risk plans
- Accurately document services in electronic systems such as Xoomia/Connect Team, including:
- Shift notes
- Medication records
- Incident reports
- Behavioral documentation
- Maintain professional communication with supervisors, guardians, and team members
- Uphold client rights, confidentiality, and dignity at all times
- Provide support for behavioral needs using approved techniques
- Attend all required training sessions, meetings, and certifications
- Valid Ohio Driver’s License
- Reliable transportation and willingness to transport clients
- Must pass a criminal background check, BCI/FBI, and drug screening
- High School Diploma or GEDAbility to lift 25–50 lbs (as needed)
- Ability to use smartphones, apps, and basic digital documentation systems
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently
- At least 1 year of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or in a caregiving role
- CPR/First Aid certification
- Medication Administration 1, 2, or 3 (MA1/MA2/MA3)
- NMT (Non-Medical Transportation) experience
