About the role

Marine vessels represent some of the most complex manufactured assets in the world and as such provide interesting, challenging and rewarding work for the people that design, build and support them through life. As an Engineer within our Marine Engineering team, you will have the opportunity to be involved in projects across the lifecycle of various types of vessels but most notably, specialised, light weight and high-speed vessels for both our UK and international customers;

this role is primarily in support of our Commercial Shipping Capability.

You will be involved in solving engineering challenges through leading the development and delivery of the Marine Engineering aspects of our projects. The projects will range from supporting our customers in procuring and designing new ships to delivering complex in-service changes for both commercial and naval vessels, through to the delivery of feasibility studies, technical engineering investigations and analyses. More specifically you may expect to get experience of undertaking:

You will have opportunity to influence designs and team processes to improve designs, build quality and efficiency. Your day-to-day work will include design of mechanical systems and arrangements with supporting calculations, supporting the review of production engineering 3D models, inter-departmental communication and liaising with suppliers, partners and clients to develop design solutions.

You will also have an opportunity to contribute to the delivery of projects across our wider portfolio, including submarines and a range of broader consulting projects within our other market areas.

Research and development is also at the heart of what we do and you will have the opportunity to support; enhancing global understanding of ship issues, the development of future ship design concepts as well as the development of new capabilities, tools and processes.
