Assistant Planner

Based at Renfrewshire House, Cotton Street, Paisley.

An Assistant Planner post has become available within the Place Strategy team of Renfrewshire Council's Planning Service focused on helping to drive forward the preparation and implementation of the Council's new Local Development Plan.

You will assist with the preparation, monitoring, alteration delivery and review of the Local Development Plan, planning guidance, development briefs, and other planning strategy and policy documents, as well as the statutory assessments that inform these documents. You will undertake consultation and community engagement on planning policy issues. You will monitor land use change within Renfrewshire through undertaking audits of a variety of places and land uses e.g. town centres and housing land.

You will provide advise on planning policy matters to colleagues and members of the public and prepare reports and briefings for colleagues and Council Boards. You will create, present and analyse spatial data and mapping associated with the duties of the post.

You will have a degree in planning or equivalent discipline; it is desirable that you are eligible for membership of the RTPI. You will have knowledge of Scottish planning legislation and development planning regulations, and it is also desirable for you to have experience of dealing with planning policy matters, as well as an understanding of wider policy issues affecting local government.

You will have IT skills, including use of Microsoft Office. GIS experience is desirable, and you will be expected to develop this in post.

You will have effective, organisational, time management, customer care, engagement, and written and verbal communication skills. You will be able to work well within a team, as well as being able to take the initiative for your own workload, managing different demands on your time to meet deadlines.

A full driving licence and a willingness to travel within Renfrewshire is desirable.
