Health Care Support Worker - Surgery and Anaesthetics

We are looking for a motivated and caring Band 2 Healthcare Support Worker to join Ward 29 at the Royal Alexandra Hospital. Our 24-bedded urology ward provides high-quality care to patients with a range of urological conditions.

In this role, you will support the nursing team with delivering patient care, assisting with daily activities, maintaining a safe and clean environment, and ensuring patients are always treated with dignity and respect. Previous care experience is desirable, along with good communication skills and a compassionate approach.

Band 2 roles are not eligible for sponsorship under the Skilled Worker or Health and Care Worker visa routes.

• Location based in Royal Alexandra Hospital, within Ward 29
• Permanent Contract
• Full-time position (36 hours per week)
• Shift pattern for this post are days, nights and weekends

• Assists with the nursing care of the patient under the supervision of a trained nurse. This will include all basic care including the reception, admission, transfer and discharge of the patient according to procedure.
• Ensure patients receive the care and assistance required/prescribed with fluid and nutritional intake.
• Observes and reports any change in the condition of the patient and communicates this verbally to the nurse in charge.
• Assists the patient unable to self care with personal hygiene and dressing, adhering to all manual handling procedures and policies.
• Carries out and assists with minor investigatory procedures e.g.:
  Urinalysis, Faecal Occult Blood testing and Urine collections as required. Reports all findings to the trained nurse.
• Participates and assists in the updating and completion of accurate patient documentation as necessary e.g.: fluid charts, Waterlow charts and also files documents appropriately when required.
• Is responsible for the cleaning and tidying of clinical areas, equipment and storage cupboards, excluding cupboards for the storage of controlled drugs and medicines and reports any defects and areas of concern to the nurse in charge.
• Maintains stock of adequate supplies of central and clinical stores excluding medicines.
• Assists with the safe custody of patient’s personal belongings in accordance with organisational policy
• To comply with all Health and Safety Legislation and policies with particular regard To COSHH, Fire, Infection Control and Manual Handling.

Training and/or qualification(s) required;

• No formal qualification required
• Good standard of education
• Good verbal communication
• Good team worker
• Basic IT skills advantageous, but not necessary
