Join Our Medical Assessment Unit at The Royal Alexandra Hospital, Paisley. We are seeking a highly motivated and passionate Registered Nurse to join our Medical Assessment Unit (MAU) at The Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley. The MAU is a fast‑paced, dynamic environment that provides assessment and immediate care for patients referred in through GP services with acute medical needs. This busy and dynamic unit receives a high turnover of patients that require first assessment after being referred in from primary care.

The role of the Registered Nurse in MAU includes skills in assisting first assessment of patients including taking bloods and performing ECGs in addition to providing high quality nursing care. As an assessment unit for a broad range of conditions, the MAU provides outstanding opportunities to develop both general and specialist skills as Registered Nurse. Duration, Location, and Working Pattern

This is a fixed‑term, full‑time post of 36 hours per week for 6 months.

The role is based at Royal Alexandra Hospital.

The shift pattern is 12 hour shifts, rotational days and nights, Monday to Sunday.

Key responsibilities Clinical
  • To assess patient needs, plan, implement and evaluate a programme of care which is evidence based utilising all available resources taking into consideration the lifestyle, gender and cultural background and ensuring involvement with the patient, family, carers and significant others.
  • Maintain patient records in line with NMC guidelines for records and record keeping.
  • Provide clinical leadership/expert advice to junior nursing staff and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
Professional
  • Practice within the legal & ethical framework as established by Nursing Midwifery Council (NMC) and National Legislation to ensure patient interests and well being are met.
  • Work within the National Health Service (NHS), NHS Greater Glasgow and Health & Safety Executive (HSE) legislation, policy, guidelines and procedures.
  • Empower patients to take responsibility for their health, well‑being and future lifestyle by practising in an open transparent and inclusive manner, thereby ensuring patients have the relevant information to participate in decisions about their care.
  • Promote and support innovation in clinical practice.
Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job
  • First/Second Level Registered Nurse
  • Ability to fulfil criteria outlined in the job description
  • Evidence of further education/courses
