Registered Nurse ODP Perioperative Practitioner

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Theatre Perioperative Practitioner (RN/ODP) to join the Main Theatre Unit at the Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAH). The department consists of 9 operating theatres, a 12-bedded recovery area and a theatre reception area staffed by the Recovery Escort Team. The service operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, providing perioperative care across a wide range of specialties including general surgery, colorectal, gynaecology, ENT, urology, breast surgery, orthopaedics and trauma.

The department also includes a dedicated emergency CEPOD theatre and is expanding its surgical services through the introduction of Da Vinci robotic surgery for colorectal, gynaecological and urological procedures.

As a Band 5 Theatre Practitioner, you will work as part of the multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality, person-centred perioperative care. You will assess, plan, implement and evaluate care programmes, ensuring patients receive safe, evidence-based treatment throughout their surgical journey. The post holder will contribute to maintaining clinical standards, supervising registered and unregistered staff, supporting learners and participating in service development, research and audit activities.

You will be responsible for effective communication with patients, relatives and colleagues, maintaining accurate patient records, adhering to professional, legal and organisational standards, and contributing to the efficient management of staffing, equipment and resources. The role also involves promoting a positive learning environment, supporting quality improvement initiatives and leading teams as required within a busy and dynamic theatre environment.

• Registered Nurse (NMC) or Operating Department Practitioner (HCPC) with current professional registration.
• Enthusiastic and motivated with an interest in perioperative practice.
• Previous perioperative experience is advantageous but not essential, as comprehensive training will be provided.
• Access to a structured mentorship and support programme.
• Opportunity to undertake funded Safe Scrub training.
• Opportunity to complete Anaesthetic and Recovery courses through Glasgow Caledonian University.
• Access to a comprehensive in-house perioperative training programme.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development and participation in appraisal processes.
• PVG Scheme Membership/Disclosure Scotland check required.
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and adapt to a changing service environment.
