Material Handling Operator Reg

Performs operating duties, rounds, and checks of assigned auxiliary equipment in the Power Block or FGD and EPF plant site area systems. Makes the necessary equipment adjustments within his/her control, performs other related work, and assists employees as needed. Performs work requiring high degree of skill in the operational duties of material handling equipment, including the unloading, and fueling of coal to the coal fired generating station and other material handling responsibilities.

Ensure the safe, efficient operation, while monitoring of all relevant rail, material handling equipment, operating systems, instruments, and controls. Maintain accurate records and logs. Performs other related work, as directed. Continue to the next level of operator training. Helps train employees in their job requirements and duties.

• Provides feedback to coworkers, contractors and visitors on both safe and at-risk practices.
• Participates in safety improvement activities and efforts.
• Personally makes visual inspection of assigned equipment.
• Lubricates equipment as required.
• Maintains work equipment and area in a clean, orderly condition.
• Communicates effectively with plant employees as to equipment operating conditions and other information.
• Properly reports abnormal conditions, trends of equipment, and takes proper corrective actions.
• Performs the necessary operations, properly places in service and removes from service auxiliary and accessory equipment following the prescribed sequence.
• Personally observes instrument indications and records data, properly maintains log records, and charts.
• Participates in scheduled safety meetings and training classes.
• Personally operates all Plant equipment and systems as trained and instructed.
• Takes a proactive approach regarding personal safety, safety of others and complies with all OSHA and SECI safety rules. Must complete all necessary online or classroom safety courses as directed. Must participate in safety briefings and meetings.
• Takes a proactive approach regarding environmental rules and regulations governing the operation of the plant. Must complete all necessary online or classroom environmental courses as directed. Required to immediately report any, and all, environmental reportable incidents.
• Adheres to Title V compliance regarding fugitive dust prevention and mitigation.
• Operates and sets up portable style pumps.
• Surveys and gathers elevations.
• Operates all mobile equipment associated with material handling including coal, bottom ash, limestone, etc.
• Assists in the monitoring and operation of coal handling system which includes conveyors, flop gates, crushers, feeders, dust suppression and collection systems, vibrators and magnetic separators, etc.
• Performs equipment checks and reports faulty equipment utilizing corrective work request process. Uses various tools for the purpose of performing material handling PM’s and cleaning assignments.
• Performs all preventive maintenance work required for material handling operation.
• Checks condition of all safety equipment.
• Assists in training employees in the operation of mobile equipment and material handling equipment.
• Performs other duties as applicable to the position or as assigned.

High School Diploma or equivalent required. Additional formal education in math and science preferred. Two (2) years of prior experience in coal fire power plant operations preferred. Three (3) years’ experience in operating material handling equipment preferred. Must complete Heavy Equipment and Equipment Operator training. Must complete all Plant Operator 1 training for Power Block or FGD and EPF plant site area systems.

Must be able to understand and interpret manuals associated with the operation and maintenance of equipment. Must gain knowledge of procedures, regulations, and operations related to all areas of a modern large coal power plant. Ability to perform all duties with minimal supervision.
