Position Summary

Performs a variety of skilled pipe fitting tasks, including layout, assembly, installation, and maintenance of pipe systems. Examples of pipe systems include hydraulic, pneumatic, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling, industrial production, processing systems, steam equipment, and pipe supports. This job requires working outdoors in the presence of fumes, chemicals and dust.

Key Performance Indicators (KPI)

Pipe components of the ship either repair or new builds are completed on time, to specifications, and within scope of the project 100% of the time, completes all required company training 100% of the time and follows all company policies and procedures 100% of the time.

Essential Functions
  • Lay out, assemble, install, and maintain pipe systems, pipe supports, and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment for various systems.
  • Cut, thread, and hammer pipe to specifications, using tools such as saws, cutting torches, pipe threaders and benders.
  • Assemble and secure pipes, tubes, fittings, and related equipment by welding, brazing, cementing, soldering, and threading joints.
  • Attach pipes to walls, structures and fixtures using brackets, clamps, tools or welding equipment.
  • Inspect, examine, and test installed systems and pipelines using pressure gauges, hydrostatic testing, observation, or other methods.
  • Lay out full scale drawings of pipe systems, supports, and related equipment, following blueprints.
  • Plan pipe system layout, installation, or repair according to specifications.
  • Select pipe sizes and types and related materials such as supports, hangers, and hydraulic cylinders according to specifications.
  • Cut and bore holes in structures prior to pipe installation using hand and power tools.
  • Modify, clean, and maintain pipe systems, units, fittings, and related machines and equipment following specifications using hand and power tools.
  • Install automatic controls used to regulate pipe systems.
  • Turn valves to shut off steam, water, or other gases/liquids from pipe sections using valve keys or wrenches.
  • Remove and replace worn components.
  • Prepare cost estimates for clients and inspect work sites for obstructions.
  • Operate motorized pumps to remove water from flooded areas.
  • Dip nonferrous piping materials in a molten tin-lead mixture to prevent corrosion.

Education:

High School Graduate or GED.

Experience:

Six months to one year related experience (Preferred – 5 years with Pipe Fitting).

10 lbs or less (Frequently), 11‑20 lbs (Frequently), 21‑50 lbs (Frequently)

Push/Pull:
12 lbs or less (Frequently), 13‑25 lbs (Frequently), 26‑40 lbs (Frequently), 41‑100 lbs (Frequently)

Physical Requirements:

Vision, sense of sound, sense of touch, ability to wear PPE.
