Administrative Assistant III - Count Room - Michael Unit (034853)
Performs complex administrative support work, providing assistance with disseminating information, maintaining filing systems, and preparing and editing reports and documents. Works under general supervision with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Essential Functions- Organizes, assigns, and reviews unit count room activities including absentee tracking, housing assignment compliance, and record maintenance.
- Coordinates with security staff to ensure accuracy of the count process and appropriate inmate housing assignments, resolving errors or conflicts as needed.
- Compiles and enters data for accurate count room records and verification of unit strength and count information.
- Responds to routine inquiries regarding count room rules, regulations, and policies, and assists in the development of unit count room procedures.
- Organizes and assigns the work of others and assists in training and providing technical assistance to staff.
- Performs additional marginal duties as determined and assigned.
- Graduation from an accredited senior high school or equivalent (GED). One year full‑time wage‑earning customer service, clerical, secretarial, administrative, or criminal justice experience.
- Fifteen semester hours of college coursework may substitute for each six months of relevant experience.
- Education and experience in correctional unit operations, computer operations, and inmate classification are preferred.
- Knowledge of office practices, unit count room procedures, and agency policies and procedures is required.
- Proficient computer skills, including use of stand‑alone and LAN environments.
- Strong communication, coordination, rule‑interpretation, problem‑solving, and record‑keeping skills.
- Ability to plan work to meet established guidelines and organize and assign the work of others.
- Physical ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, reach above the shoulder, grasp, pull, bend, climb stairs, and operate motor vehicles, as well as to perform general tasks such as writing, speaking, reading, and counting.
- Work may involve exposure to moving parts, radiant and electrical energy, and working with machinery, both with and without others, in regular or irregular hours and travel by car, van, bus, or airplane.
- Equipment used includes computer, calculator, copier, fax machine, telephone, dolly, and automobile.
