Job SummaryThe Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) provides pre‑hospital emergency medical care and transportation for sick and injured patients in accordance with established protocols and regulatory requirements. As part of a team, the EMT ensures timely, compassionate, and efficient care in a variety of emergency and non‑emergency situations, maintains equipment and vehicles, documents services, and supports other clinical and operational duties as assigned.
EssentialFunctions
- Responds to emergency calls and provides basic life support in line with EMT scope of practice.
- Assesses patient condition, determines nature of illness or injury, and provides appropriate treatment.
- Assists in lifting, moving, and transporting patients safely via ambulance or other approved methods.
- Communicates effectively with dispatch, emergency departments, physicians, and family members.
- Operates and maintains medical equipment including oxygen, suction units, stretchers, and monitors.
- Documents all patient care activities accurately in accordance with department and regulatory standards.
- Maintains cleanliness, readiness, and inventory of emergency response vehicles and equipment.
- Supports emergency room or hospital transport team functions as needed.
- Participates in quality improvement activities and continuing education requirements.
- Follows safety and infection prevention protocols in all patient care activities.
- Knowledge of EMT scope of practice and emergency care procedures.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills under pressure.
- Ability to respond quickly and effectively in emergent and unpredictable environments.
- Proficiency in documentation and use of electronic medical records (EMRs).
- Physical strength and stamina to lift patients and operate heavy equipment.
- Commitment to patient confidentiality, professionalism, and team collaboration.
- Must be able to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of an accredited EMT program.
- Current EMT certification in the state of practice required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) preferred.
- Valid driver’s license and driving record that meets company standards (if driving responsibilities are included).
- One (1) year of experience in pre‑hospital emergency care preferred.
