Scope

Under general supervision, provides professional nursing care for patients adhering to national and company standards and guidelines for specialty regulations. Demonstrates knowledge of physiological, psychological, developmental and age‑specific differences in the patient population. Collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to assess and therapeutically manage patient/family needs. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, implement, coordinate, evaluate and promote the continuity of care consistent with established standards and practices.
  • Assess health status by interviewing patient regarding current status and medical history.
  • Collect and record nursing assessment and interventions; review and report results of health status assessment, physical examination, laboratory, radiographic and psychosocial data to the provider.
  • Assess patient/family needs and provide teaching and instructional materials.
  • Provide psychosocial support to patients and families.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Prepare and administer therapies under physician direction; administer all medications/blood products correctly, ensure pre‑authorization and consent forms are obtained when applicable.
  • Facilitate dose modification by assessing patient, labs, consulting protocol and physician; perform venipuncture, access implanted ports, and maintain central line devices; document accurately.
  • Maintain work environment: restock supplies, follow OSHA guidelines for cytotoxic agents, maintain disinfection protocols and equipment quality control.
  • Facilitate clinical operations and patient care: manage medication refill requests, assist physicians with exams and procedures, schedule consultations and tests, triage patient calls, coordinate services, assist patients with community resources.
  • Other duties as assigned; collaborate with clinical research; support LPN/LVNs and medical assistants; provide coverage for satellite offices; participate in professional development and ongoing oncology education.
Qualifications
  • Education/Training:
    Graduate from an accredited professional nursing program; BSN preferred. RN state license and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in the practicing state. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Must maintain continuing education requirements.
  • Business

    Experience:

    0‑3 years nursing experience, preferably at least one year in oncology.
  • Working Conditions:

    Office/warehouse environment typical of oncology/hematology clinic. Reasonable accommodations may be made for disabilities. Exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medical preparations and other oncology clinic conditions.
  • Physical Requirements:

    Full range of body motion; handling and lifting patients; manual and finger dexterity; eye‑hand coordination; standing and walking for extensive periods; occasionally lift items up to 40 lb; corrected vision and hearing within normal range.   • Specialty Specific Responsibilities – Transplant and Infusion RN duties:
    Provide nursing care for high‑dose chemotherapy, stem cell rescue, and post‑rescue follow‑up; manage symptoms/toxicities; collaborate with transplant physicians; report data to transplant registries; operate infusion pumps for home use; maintain documentation of pump usage.
