this open competitive advertisement is for a career service position located at various correctional institutions in the maintenance department statewide. The florida department of corrections facilities management and building construction aims to provide a safe, secure, and efficient environment for staff, inmates, and visitors through the management, maintenance, and construction of correctional facilities in compliance with regulatory standards.

this position is not a telework position and is required to report to the fdc office in the area it serves.

job duties
  • responsible for the general maintenance, preventive maintenance, and repair of plumbing, electrical, cabinetry/carpentry, masonry, welding, hvac, drywall, roofing, and related systems necessary to operate a major institution.
  • responsible for general and preventive maintenance, and repair of various systems including plumbing, electrical, hvac, and more.
  • provides on-the-job training to supervised inmates in trades related to maintenance and repair tasks.
  • performs tests, maintains logs, and keeps records for equipment as per department guidelines.
  • plans, organizes, and requisitions necessary parts for maintenance tasks, ensuring adherence to policies and procedures.
  • prepares reports and maintains custody and control of assigned inmates, participating in departmental training as required.

requirements

College or vocational/technical training in one of the above listed trades may substitute for the required experience.
  • a valid class e driver’s license
