Heavy Equipment Mechanic
Mechanic / Senior Trades Worker Office of Transportation and Facilities Minimum Qualifications
Requires a high school diploma or G.E.D. and four years of experience as described below or formal education may substitute for work experience and a valid Florida Class A Commercial Driver License with Tanker N endorsement or the ability to obtain within one year from date of hire. The District may pay for the Entry‑Level Driver Training program and may reimburse for other fees associated with obtaining the CDL license through a provider of the District's choice.
After the initial Entry‑Level Driver Training program paid by the District, if a CDL is not obtained, employee will be responsible for the cost of subsequent training. SJRWMD has determined this to be a mandatory‑testing position as described in Section 440.102, Florida Statutes and the Commercial Motor Vehicle Drug Testing Program as described in 49 CFR Part 382. Any offer of employment will be contingent upon taking a drug screening paid by SJRWMD.

Preferred Experience
Precision maintenance and repair of aircraft engines installed in airboats. Skilled in:
Analyzing engine problems, making repairs, operating and performing operational evaluation on the following: pumps, engines, vehicles, dozers, trackhoes, grader, front‑end loader, tractors, mowers, lowboy transporter, aircraft engines; the use and maintenance of power tools; and identifying problems, ordering, and installing required parts.
- Per पसंदful Performs both general maintenance and repair, and precision maintenance and repair, on aircraft engines installed in airboats, and aircraft engine components (e.g., magnetos and carburetors).
- Performs preventative maintenance and major and minor repairs on the District's light fleet, heavy equipment, hydraulic units, and systems.
- Maintains and carries out scheduled servicing and operational repairs for project pumps, engines, vehicles, and other small equipment used on projects (engine types include diesel, gas, and alternative fuel, as well as hydraulic and electrical pumps, motors, and control units).
- Performs preventative maintenance checks and services for District vehicles and equipment.
- Cleans and maintains tools and shop equipment; executes air conditioning repairs on heavy and light equipment.
- Operates vehicles and equipment, such as pickup trucks, dump trucks, front‑end loader, dozer, trackhoe grader, tractors, mowers, and semi‑tractor trailer for testing and evaluating maintenance performed.
