Responsible for conducting Low Vision Occupational Therapy (OT) evaluations and related Occupational Therapy assessments for individuals with low vision, establishing a plan of care and providing appropriate interventions to meet client goals.

• Conduct Low Vision Occupational Therapy evaluation and other Occupational Therapy related assessments.
• Develop a goal-oriented plan of care and provide intervention in daily living skills and other relevant rehabilitation activities.
• Work in conjunction with existing Braille Institute of America services to develop a comprehensive, collaborative plan of care that meets the needs of the client including recommendations for other Braille Institute of America services.
• Recommend adapted equipment and magnification devices to achieve clients' goals and complete subsequent documentation. Maintain updated inventory of devices and equipment.
• Document and update record of Low Vision client evaluations, assessments, outcomes and all services as needed to comply with Braille Institute of America standards.
• Maintain good communication with referring Physicians.
• Maintain current knowledge of emerging trends and advances in Low Vision protocols, outcomes measurements, devices/technologies, services and referral sources.
• Provide training for staff and volunteers in Low Vision Rehabilitation-related topics, as requested by the Supervisor.
• Participate in Braille Institute of America seminars, marketing activities and other special events as needed to promote Low Vision services and the organization's overall programs and services.
• Perform other duties as assigned. As the organization continues to evolve, duties or tasks may change without impacting on the overall job description.
• Work closely with Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant (COTA) when applicable.
• Comply with all State Licensure, Regulatory and federal guidelines and American Occupational Therapy Association Standards of Practice.

Clinical supervision of Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant where applicable.

Knowledge and Education

Position requires a four-year college degree in occupational therapy. Strong knowledge of diseases of the eye, assistive devices/technologies, and visual assessment techniques is essential.

Skills and Abilities

Position requires good Occupational Therapy Clinical and documentation skills. Also requires communication, organization, assessment, interpersonal, problem solving, computer and teaching skills. The ability to multi-task, assess needs of the visually impaired, and recommend solutions to meet their needs is required.

Experience

Three years of clinical practice preferably in the area of Low Vision, Geriatrics or Neurological Rehabilitation.

Certifications / Licenses

Requires State licensure or eligible for State licensure in Occupational Therapy. License renewal is required every two years and recertification is required every five years, involving continuing education and professional experience. Preference for Low Vision certification or participating in Low Vision rehabilitation certification program.
