Membership Trainee (Building Supervisor)

Location: YMCA of the Suncoast, Greater Palm Harbor Branch

Rate of pay: $14.35/hr – $14.95/hr (Opportunity to increase to $15.10/hr upon completion of required training)

Shift: Varies; must be available nights and/or weekends. Looking for a leader with good judgement and great communication skills.

Job Summary: The YMCA of the Suncoast seeks a magnetic, meticulous, mindful Member Service superhero to elevate customer service. The Member Services Representative delivers exceptional service to members, guests, and program participants, creating a friendly environment, greeting all, responding to questions, assisting with membership changes or transactions, and contributing to membership sales through tours, promotion of memberships, and program information.

Under the direction of the Membership Director/Coordinator, the Membership Trainee will work toward meeting all requirements of the Member Specialist I position within 60 days from hire date, cultivating relationships with members and potential members. Services include membership and program receipting; conducting tours and follow-up; handling member phone inquiries; assisting the Membership Director with relationship-building activities; and performing other assigned tasks.

Education, Training and

Experience:

  • Minimum of 17 years of age.
  • High school graduate or equivalent required.
  • College degree with an emphasis in Marketing or Communications preferred.
  • At least 1 year of customer service experience.
  • Understanding of the YMCA mission preferred.
  • Upon hire, completion of Intro to Y's Cause & Culture, Y's Way to Service & Engagement, and I Hear You:
    Service with CARE trainings.
  • Within 60 days of hire, meeting criteria of Member Specialist I position (Foundations of Listen First, Get SMART, Three Keys to Successful Family Engagement, Living our Cause for Frontline Leaders, Cause Driven Tour Workshop,  Skills Assessment).
  • CPR, AED, and First Aid certification preferred.

Special Skills or Equipment

Required:

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, computer/data entry knowledge, 30 words per minute typing speed, proficiency in Microsoft Office, strong organizational skills, positive attitude.

Physical and Mental Requirements: May be required to lift up to 30 lbs. Expected to stand and/or sit for extended periods, operate phone, computer, and equipment. Must follow detailed instructions and maintain professionalism. Requires auditory, visual, and verbal abilities for communication via phone and in person.

Job Duties:

  • Within 60 days of hire, complete all requirements of Member Specialist I Position.
  • Relationship building activities.
  • Create a warm and welcoming environment.
  • Educate members and prospective members about YMCA services and connect them to the organization.
  • Introduce yourself to all members and learn each member's name and introduce members with similar interests.
  • Thank members for allowing us to serve them.
  • Assist members and prospective members at the welcome desk.
  • Receipting into Active all new memberships and entering financial/payment information.
  • Make Photo  for all YMCA facility members.
  • Conduct tours of the facility to assess members' needs.
  • Follow up on tours as required.
  • Assist with reservations for all wellness center orientations.
  • Handle all phone inquiries regarding membership and program information.
  • Input program registrations through receipting into Active.
  • Assist members with program questions and inquiries.
  • File all necessary paperwork as required.
  • Perform various clerical duties.
  • Help develop and participate in Member Appreciation/Retention activities.
  • Assist with annual membership data audit.
  • Create a nurturing and safe environment by reporting suspicious activity (may lead to child abuse or violate code of conduct). Keep supplies organized, maintain and clean facility, and care for equipment.
