Job Summary

Under the direction and supervision of the Nurse Manager/Clinic Manager or Administrator or MA Supervisor, the Medical Assistant (MA) will provide assistance to the clinician, mid-level clinician, clinic nurse(s), and patients. The MA provides basic clinical procedures to non‑acutely ill patients, assists in maintaining supplies, provides quality patient care, ensures a safe and clean patient care area, and performs other clinical duties and procedures prior to the clinician's visit with the patient while assuring positive care outcomes.

  • Consistently project a professional and courteous demeanor, help establish and maintain the highest service standards for the medical clinic and comply with DAP Health's policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate willingness to assist co‑workers whenever needed.
  • Maintain good working relationships with all clinic personnel.
  • Provide compassionate quality care to the patients of DAP Health, within the scope of practice outlined by state or federal law.
  • Deliver care in accordance with established standard of care and accepted community standards.
  • Understand the organization's commitment to provide high quality patient care and promote a patient‑centered environment.
  • Prepare charts, perform pre‑visit planning, and participate in daily care team huddle.
  • Obtain consents from patients for minor procedures.
  • Receive patients, take and record chief complaint, and prepare patient for examination; record vital signs.
  • Prepare patients for examinations or procedures including positioning, draping, shaving and disinfecting treatment sites.
  • Assist the provider in the collection of specimens such as pap smears and throat cultures.
  • Explain procedures to patients at the request of clinic personnel.
  • Collect specimens, take EKGs, collect blood samples as requested and assist the physician with examination, treatments, minor surgery, dressing changes and splinting.
  • Perform simple laboratory procedures such as blood sugars and urine dipstick.
  • Review patient record forms for accuracy and completion.
  • Sterilize instruments and maintain diagnostic and therapeutic equipment; dispose of contaminated, disposable, and outdated items per protocol.
  • Perform vision screening and operate oximeter, audiometer, nebulizer, and spirometer as directed.
  • Assist with patient flow during clinic hours.
  • Prepare and replenish supplies in treatment and exam rooms; maintain orderly readiness.
  • Check equipment for proper functioning.
  • Administer medications orally, topically, vaginally, rectally, subcutaneously, intramuscularly, or intradermally.
  • Adhere to safety and infection control policies.
  • Adhere to privacy, confidentiality, and security policies for protected health information (PHI).
  • Show sensitivity to cultural differences and maintain a positive and supportive manner.
  • Maintain positive working relationship with all staff to ensure continuity of care.
  • Complete paperwork timely and efficiently.
  • Access patient‑protected health information and retrieve client files as required.
  • Route documents within the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
  • Answer telephones and relay messages accurately.
  • Interface effectively in a team environment with agency staff and volunteers.
  • Handle crisis and stressful situations calmly and respectfully.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Sign‑on Bonus (New hires only): $1,000 ($500 with first paycheck, $500 after 6 months of employment).
Required Skills/Abilities
  • Excellent communication skills – verbal and written.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical record systems (preferred).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (preferred).
  • Bilingual/bicultural (Spanish) preferred.
