Job Overview
Nursing Supervisor – Part‑time, Evening at Desert Regional Medical Center, a 385‑bed acute‑care hospital classified as a stroke receiving center and Level I Trauma Center. The role supports all departments, handles shift supervisory responsibilities, maintains department budget, and ensures quality patient care during evening shifts.
Shift & HoursEvenings. Hourly rate: $51.18 – $81.91 (depending on qualifications). Shift length 5–6 hours per shift.
Responsibilities- Shift responsibility for daily operational and clinical functions of all departments.
- Fiscal responsibility to meet staffing budget and department constraints.
- Coach, mentor, and advise staff to ensure quality care and cost‑effectiveness.
- Represent hospital administration in coordinating hospital‑wide issues and notifying the administrator‑on‑call as indicated.
- Maintain current knowledge of hospital‑wide operations and facilitate positive relationships among departments.
- Access to all Patient Health Information for treatment.
- Obtain and interpret information in terms of patient needs.
- Demonstrate knowledge of growth and development.
- Shift Manager: assure excellence in the clinical practice and procedures for hospital staff.
- Serve as a coach and facilitator for interpretation clarification of nursing standards, hospital policies, and procedures.
- Promptly and fully investigate and resolve complaints of patients, visitors, staff, and physicians.
- Advise appropriate department directors of problems with or concerns of staff, patients, families, and physicians.
- Make frequent and purposeful rounds to all areas to verify that patient needs are met, and provide guidance and direction in real‑time to all nursing personnel.
- Review and analyze staffing requirements according to staffing guidelines and patient acuity, and assist staff in meeting staffing standards.
- Function effectively as a traffic controller for the code Blue team.
- Function effectively in designated role in disaster and other emergent situations.
- Respond, assume leadership, and provide direction in rapidly changing workload and crisis situations.
- Assist admission/bed control with admissions and transfers to facilitate optimal patient placement.
- Maintain knowledge of all nursing job performance standards and applicable competencies and licensing regulations.
- Monitor the department’s activities and take appropriate action to ensure efficient and effective operation.
- Assess and implement staff development and cross‑training as needed.
- Support department‑specific orientation for all new employees.
- Support all hospital programs to include risk management, safety, and infection control.
- Identify, recommend, and implement cost savings through labor and supply utilization efficiencies.
- Promote sound staffing practices by anticipating and forecasting personnel needs with regard to fluctuations in projected workload.
- Take initiative to make change and advise and collaborate with department management and nursing administration as indicated to improve quality, reduce cost, and manage/reduce risk.
- Represent hospital and administration during assigned shift; take personal responsibility for reputation and integrity of nursing administration.
- Current California RN license.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) within 24 months of date of hire or date of transfer into this position.
- Minimum of 5 years direct‑care experience.
- Current clinical competence, with evidence of ongoing continuing education.
- Progressive healthcare experience including supervisory experience.
- Basic computer competence.
- Demonstrated competence as a leader.
- Current American Heart Association BLS Certification (maintain current at all times).
- Masters in Nursing (MSN).
