Up to $15,000 Sign-On bonus based on experience. Desert Regional Medical Center is a 385-bed acute-care hospital classified as a stroke receiving center and level 2 trauma facility with an innovative, patient‑centered and evidence‑based Rehabilitation Services Department. Our compassionate team provides a wide range of inpatient and outpatient services, including acute care rehabilitation, joint replacement & spinal surgery, neurosurgery, ICU, telemetry, step‑down care, skilled nursing, as well as outpatient therapy, hand and lymphedema clinics.
Responsibilities- Maintain Chemotherapy Competency
- Obtain information and interpret information in terms of the patient’s needs.
- Demonstrate knowledge of growth and development.
- Understand the range of treatment needed as appropriate to the ages of the patients served.
- Maintain annual competencies.
- Perform and document accurate comprehensive and daily assessments per policy and standards for specific unit.
- Demonstrate knowledge associated with specific unit disease processes.
- Demonstrate knowledge of commonly used drugs for specific unit.
- Initiate, document progressive patient and family/significant teaching.
- Facilitate the discharge process ensuring all goals are addressed prior to discharge.
- Initiate interdisciplinary communications and incorporate recommendations.
- Work with other disciplines for complex discharge planning and early facilitation of discharge process.
- Utilize current theories and knowledge for accurate assessments and evaluations.
- Complete acuity evaluation on all assigned patients according to unit protocol.
- Consistently function proficiently on the nursing unit. Including but not limited to: manage an average caseload specific to unit, adapt to altered work patterns, set priorities, and modify assignments to meet patient needs utilizing available resources and staff ability and availability.
- Administer medications prescribed by physicians according to policy, including IVs, blood and blood products. Know actions, indications, contraindications, precautions, adverse reactions, dosage and route of administration on all drugs before administering to patient.
- Verify against MAR for accuracy on an ongoing basis.
- Function as a charge nurse as assigned.
- Communicate changes in clinical practice to peers.
- Mentor other co‑workers, function as a resource, act as preceptor, and other duties as assigned.
- Demonstrate knowledge of legal, ethical, and safety issues and deliver care that is safe within the scope of practice.
- Report, document, and take appropriate action (by the end of shift) for incidents and/or quality care issues that may affect the patient’s or staff well‑being.
- Consistently assess patients for risk of injury and take appropriate action to reduce risk and promote safety.
- Consistently recognize, evaluate and intervene appropriately in life‑threatening situations.
- Consistently check for new patient orders throughout the shift and implement them in an appropriate timeframe. Complete an end of shift review of physician orders.
- Consistently recognize variances of diagnostic tests, vital signs and assessments. Notify the physician in a timely appropriate to the variance.
- Use restraints according to policy and consistently explore other options less restrictive, with accurate documentation.
- Ensure compliance with Departmental policies and procedures. Assume responsibility for knowledge and implementation of policy, procedure, practice, and changes.
- Follow appropriate chain of command for problem resolution approaching problem solving with a positive attitude and suggestions.
- Serve as advocate for patient/family by providing information and assist in utilization of available resources and/or alternatives for making health care decisions (i.e. advanced directives, ethics consult).
- Establish or assess proper identification prior to delivery of care.
- Handle and dispose hazardous waste safely and appropriately.
