The AGV (Automated Guided Vehicle) Technician is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, and minor repair of AGV systems and related automated infrastructure for an aircraft assembly line. This technician plays a critical role in ensuring the reliable and safe operation of AGVs, supporting all aspects of system health — from mechanical components to operational control software — under defined contract parameters.
This position requires hands-on technical skills, proactive system monitoring, and strong documentation practices.
- Essential Functions
- Preventive and Predictive Maintenance
- Maintain an inspection and servicing schedule for all AGV system components, including:
- Batteries and battery chargers
- Wheel/drive assemblies
- Lifting systems
- Seismic latches
- Perform routine maintenance on AGV floor magnet navigation systems (excluding new magnet installation or path reprogramming).
- Maintain the AGV “Traffic Light” signaling system.
- System Monitoring and Documentation
- Monitor and track inventory of all critical and consumable spare parts; escalate restocking needs as per schedule (spares quoted under separate contracts).
- Backup all machine software monthly, after major updates, and after system recoveries.
- Maintain and update system maintenance manuals and documentation, providing final copies to the customer at the end of each performance period.
- Generate and maintain:
- Service and downtime logs
- Preventive maintenance schedules and associated records
- Records of all repairs, inspections, calibrations, and spare part usage
- Repair and Support Services
- Perform minor system repairs (up to Level 3 Maintenance) as needed within the standard work week (up to 44 hours/week).
- Provide mechanical adjustments in accordance with designated safety standards.
- Perform maintenance repair/replacement on the following components:
- RFID tags and antennas
- System filters (air, vacuum, oil, lubricants)
- AGV festooning/cables, static discharge straps, and remote-control pendants (e.g., belly and dead man switches)
- General Site Support
- Perform general cleaning of systems and components without disrupting production.
- Ensure all work is performed in compliance with safety regulations and customer protocols.
- Participate in regular inspections and audits as needed.
- 3+ years of experience working with AGVs or similar automated systems in a production or industrial environment
- Technical certification in Mechatronics, Electrical, Mechanical, or related field
- Familiarity with CMMS and software backup procedures
- Working knowledge of RFID systems, control systems, and basic automation software
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills
- Ability to read and interpret technical documentation and service manuals
- Excellent record-keeping, organizational, and communication skills
- Knowledge of Cal/OSHA or relevant safety standards
