Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems seeks a Senior Principal Software Engineer – Embedded Development. This position may be located in San Diego, CA;
El Segundo, CA;
Palmdale, CA; or Oklahoma City, OK.

Candidates will work on software supporting various systems through all phases of the software development lifecycle, including requirements, design, development, integration, and test. The role requires a comprehensive understanding of the full development life‑cycle, technical, schedule, and cost constraints, and strong leadership in coordinating with multiple teams.

• Design, develop, maintain, and execute automated software tests for qualification of embedded software products.
• Work in a lab environment on Agile projects.
• Apply knowledge of all phases of the Software Development Lifecycle.
• Analyze requirements allocated to computer software configuration items (CSCI).
• Develop clear, concise technical documentation.
• Collaborate with software developers and other engineers to diagnose and identify root causes of problems during software installation, integration, acceptance testing, and operational events.
• Submit detailed problem reports for errors found.

• Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM discipline with 8 years of related engineering experience; or a Master’s degree with 6 years of experience; or a PhD with 4 years of experience.
• Experience with safety‑critical embedded real‑time software.
• Experience with UAV route planning, routing algorithms, or other geometrically based algorithms.
• Experience developing software and scripts in C/C++ and Python.
• Experience with software development methodologies and frameworks such as waterfall and/or Agile throughout the SDLC.
• Experience with software change control, change management, and CI/CD tools such as Atlassian, Git Hub, Git Lab, and/or Jenkins.
• Experience with software architecture, design, implementation, integration, debugging, and testing of safety‑critical embedded real‑time software written in C/C++ on real‑time operating systems such as VxWorks, Integrity, and/or Real Time Embedded Linux.
• Familiarity with static code analysis tools such as Coverity, Sonar Qube, and Fortify.
• Familiarity with using MATLAB.
• Active DoD Top Secret clearance.
• Ability to obtain and maintain initial Special Program Access (SAP/PAR) before employment and to upgrade SAP/PAR during the role.

• Current Special Program Access.
• Previous experience with existing system.
• Demonstrated leadership, excellent teamwork, and strong oral and written communication skills.
• Recent experience with multi‑threaded programming in C/C++ for real‑time systems.
• Experience with SOAP and Java services.
• Recent experience with scripting languages such as Python, MATLAB, JavaScript, and/or Bash.

The salary range is a general guideline. Northrop Grumman considers factors such as scope and responsibilities, experience, education, skills, and market conditions.
