Position: Forester 4 - Fire Planner (PCN 10-N24015)

The Department of Natural Resources, Division of Forestry & Fire Protection,is recruiting for a Forester 4 (Fire Planner) in Palmer.

This position is open to Alaska Residents only.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Providing wildland fire planning technical support and coordination with fire management officers, land or resource management staff, and planners.
  • Providing local expertise for short - and long-term strategic fire management planning, assessments, and interagency efforts.
  • Support the Deputy Director of Fire Protection in the development of presentations and briefings for departmental briefs and legislative hearings.
  • As part of the Fire Programs' strategic plan for recruitment and retention of Alaskan wildland firefighters. Support a class study and efforts to develop firefighter and fire management specialist positions.
  • Provide support to Regional and Area FMOs in the development and review of the Fire Management Plans. Assist in the coordination of Interagency inputs and ensure that they reflect national, regional, and local management goals and objectives.
  • Support and facilitate the Fire Protection Program's reorganization and update of policies, procedures, and operating guides

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in forestry, natural resources, or a closely related field that includes a minimum of 24 semester hours or 36 quarter hours in forestry or closely related curricula.
AND EITHER
One years of professional advanced level experience in forestry, natural resources, or a closely related field. The required experience includes work such as Forester 3 or Natural Resource Specialist 3 with the State of Alaska, or the equivalent with another employer.
