The Registered Nurse is responsible for providing care during the antepartum, intrapartum, immediate postpartum, and neonatal phases of obstetrical care to Labor and Delivery patients. This is achieved by utilizing the Nursing Process in accordance with the state Nurse Practice Act and hospital policies and procedures. The RN demonstrates critical thinking, scientific judgment, and leadership in planning for safe delivery of care.
They maintain clinical competencies through continuing education, delegate patient care priorities appropriately based on staff education and experience, and provide direction and supervision to assigned personnel delivering patient care.
