This position is responsible for performing customer service, administrative, technical and physical duties in support of scale house and transfer station operations.
Work is performed and duties are carried out in accordance with established policies, procedures, and Borough core values:

This position may be scheduled at:
Big Lake Transfer Site, Butte Transfer Site, Sutton Transfer Site or Central Landfill Scale House depending on operational needs.
F1 - DOE
High School diploma or equivalent.
Three years of experience in the occupational field, sufficient to understand the major duties of the position.
This is a customer focused and fast paced position primarily responsible for receiving and processing funds received in person at the landfill and transfer sites.
Relevant experience and/or skills may include customer service skills, cash handling, excellent communication skills, attention to detail, must be able to work alone and with others, available to work weekends.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of Alaska for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
24 Hour HAZWOPER certification or ability to become certified in all areas within six (6) months from the date of hire.
Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen, background check and physical.
Duties/Responsibilities- Greets and directs customers to appropriate areas for materials disposal; informs customers of disposal guidelines; determine volume or weight and physically inspect loads; determines correct material codes; receives customer payments; and promotes recycling program.
- Determines customer counts, balances funds, prepares bank deposits, and records transactions daily; and, secures logged deposits in safe awaiting pickup by Supervisor or armed guard security vendor.
- Secures money and facility in accordance with Division standard operating procedures.
- Maintains office, scale house, transfer station, and equipment; inspects, cleans and maintains grounds and scales daily.
- Schedules site maintenance as needed.
- Provides support and training to new staff and temporary employees.
- Coordinates container pickup with contractor; tracks container transports.
- Monitor container levels and redistribute refuse regularly, as needed.
- Performs collection of special waste materials (ex. Antifreeze, batteries, cooking oil, motor oil, paint, propane tanks, refrigerators, etc.); performs initial cleanup of spilled materials and/or contaminates.
- Develops and maintains reports and logs, copies and restocks flyers and brochures, executes filing, office work and document record keeping as required.
- Performs related duties.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of relevant environmental rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of department and Borough policies and procedures, and federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of landfill and transfer station operation.
- Knowledge of operational hazards and safety standards associated with the work and industry.
- Knowledge of computers and job related software programs.
- Knowledge of standard office equipment operation.

The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while standing at a counter while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, bending or crouching. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects of up to 50 pounds, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, distinguishes between shades of color, and utilizes the sense of smell. The work is typically performed in an office and outdoors, frequently in cold or inclement weather.
The employee may be exposed to dust, dirt, and grease; machinery with moving parts; contagious or infectious diseases, and irritating chemicals. Work requires the use of protective devices such as high visibility, reflective vests, masks, goggles, gloves, etc. ravel and/or reports to work at various site locations as needed. May operate a motor vehicle.
