Nutrition Assistant, Full Time, Baystate Wing R39426

Job Responsibilities
  • Facilitates patient meal selections using Hand Held Technology with emphasis on customer service.
  • Provides guidance to patients and family members to select foods that comply with Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) orders; supports nursing and Clinical Nutrition Team.
  • Assesses patients for appropriateness of food selections and assists with meal selections when indicated, offering diet-appropriate recommendations.
  • Confirms MNT orders and allergies in CIS and CBord; communicates food choice and/or intake problems to the clinical nutrition team and nursing.
  • Delivers supplements to patients, assists nursing in verifying consumption, and uses dual identifiers for distribution of nourishments.
  • Ensures completeness and accuracy of trays; assists patients with tray setup as needed; follows "clean in, clean out" practices.
  • Records supplement, fluid and meal intake; records calorie count when ordered.
  • Reports patient meal problems to dietitians and follows up; uses the C-Bord program to maintain records for discrepancies; follows up with patients regarding unmet expectations and reports outcomes to the FS Operations Manager.
  • Provides accurate information for the production area to streamline tray assembly; emphasizes waste reduction and communicates about MHU discharges being removed prior to assembly.
  • Works with nursing to improve inter-department communication for patient care; uses status icons on C-Bord, including the refused tray button; provides trays only when a physician or nurse has changed the patient’s diet in C-Bord.
  • Inserts tray tickets using proper methods; follows predetermined ticket setup with hot items/garnish at the top and cold items in designated areas.
  • Distributes tube feedings on schedule; uses hand held technology for inputting patient meals through C-Bord and follows scripting and allergy checks.
  • Attends nursing practice meetings to improve processes through collaboration; reinstitutes test tray programs and documents results for monthly reporting.
  • Follows up with patients using the satisfaction survey tool to ensure an excellent experience and seeks feedback for service improvements.
  • Demonstrates service excellence in support of the patient experience and the SPIRIT program.
Qualifications
  • Preferred

    Work Experience:

    Food service and/or healthcare experience preferred
  • Skills and

    Competencies:

    Able to speak, write and comprehend English; basic math skills; ability to follow directions; excellent verbal communication; familiarity with Windows-based software

Compensation & Benefits

Minimum – Midpoint – Maximum: $17.63 – $20.27 – $23.65 per hour
