We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Construction Estimator to join our growing Preconstruction team in Palo Alto California. The Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates, budgets, and proposals for a variety of construction projects. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of local labor, materials, and building codes, and experience in estimating both public and private sector work in California.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze project plans, specifications, and related documents to prepare accurate and competitive estimates
  • Perform quantity take-offs, cost analyses, bid leveling, constructability reviews, logistics, and risk assessments
  • Solicit and evaluate budgets and bids from subcontractors and suppliers
  • Develop and maintain relationships with vendors, subcontractors, and industry professionals
  • Prepare detailed bid proposals and budgets for submission to clients or internal leadership
  • Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and project walk-throughs
  • Track historical cost data to inform future estimates
  • Coordinate with the preconstruction manager, project managers, engineers, and architects to ensure estimate accuracy
  • Stay current with Northern California construction market trends, costs, codes, and regulations
Qualifications
  • 3–7 years of experience in construction estimating, preferably in California
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field (or equivalent experience) preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, OST, CostX, Plan Swift, Pro Est, Destini, Sage Estimating, or similar)
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting plans, specifications, and technical documents
  • Familiarity with California construction labor laws, permitting, and environmental regulations
  • Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines
  • Valid California driver’s license and ability to travel to job sites across Northern California
Preferred Experience
  • Public works or prevailing wage estimating (e.g., schools, infrastructure)
  • Experience with OSHPD, DSA, Caltrans, or other regulatory agencies
  • Knowledge of LEED, Title 24, or sustainable construction practices
