Assistant Dean of Students, Office of Community Standards

Stanford University, recognized as one of the most prestigious and innovative academic institutions in the world, has an opening for an Assistant Dean of Students in the Office of Community Standards—a unit of the Division of Student Affairs. The Assistant Dean will lead and manage the student conduct process, investigating individual and group conduct matters, educating the community about integrity, and supporting a culture of accountability and integrity.

This Role, You Will
  • Conduct thorough investigations in response to allegations of policy violations under the Student Conduct Charter, Bylaws, and Student Group Accountability Process.
  • Advise, educate, and support students, faculty, and staff about their rights and responsibilities in the conduct process.
  • Manage a large caseload of academic integrity, behavioral, and group cases.
  • Support and educate students as part of any educational outcome or sanction.
  • Represent OCS programs and initiatives to internal and external constituents.
  • Lead educational, outreach, and training programs with the Stanford community about academic integrity.
To Be Successful In This Role, You Will Bring
  • Bachelor’s degree and five years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, investigative, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple ongoing, complex caseloads of incidents and complaints.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to handle confidential information.
  • Ability to build relationships and collaborate across the institution.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse constituencies with diplomacy and tact.
  • Relevant computer systems/technology experience.
  • Ability to ensure compliance with legal, financial, and university policies and external regulations.
  • Ability to act independently, take initiative, and exercise sound judgment.
Job Purpose

The Assistant Dean of Students in the Office of Community Standards will administer, implement, and interpret university policies and procedures; identify, clarify, and resolve highly visible or complex issues with substantial significance and impact that may span multiple areas, using expert technical and professional knowledge requiring independent judgment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Diplomacy, tact and discretion in handling confidential student information.
  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to the undergraduate and graduate experience at a selective, demanding residential university.
  • Law or other graduate degree and a minimum of seven years of relevant experience (preferred).
Physical Requirements

Frequently sit, perform desk‑based computer tasks; occasionally stand, walk, twist, use fine manipulation, write by hand, sort and file paperwork, lift, carry, push, and rarely pull objects that weigh up to ten pounds.

Working Conditions

Hybrid work schedule with a minimum of three days onsite each week; able to work evenings and weekends as necessary. Expected pay range: $105,087 – $110,000 per annum.
