Stanford University invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean of the Graduate School of Education. The Dean is responsible for the direction of teaching, research, public service, partnerships, and outreach functions of the School. We seek individuals with outstanding scholarly and professional careers who have demonstrated potential for academic and administrative leadership.
The Graduate School of Education organizes its PhD and Master’s programs into three areas:
Social Sciences, Humanities and Interdisciplinary Policy Studies in Education;
Developmental and Psychological Sciences;
Curriculum Studies and Teacher Education; plus two Cross-Area Specializations:
Learning Sciences and Technology Design; and Race, Inequality, and Language in Education. The School also offers the Stanford Teacher Education Program, four Master’s programs, as well as an undergraduate minor degree. Of the 380 students enrolled, approximately 140 are pursuing doctoral degrees. The 62 members of the School’s full-time faculty have a strong tradition of excellence in teaching, research, and public service.
The School encompasses 12 research centers and supports the University-wide Stanford Accelerator for Learning.
As the senior officer of the School, the Dean must have vision and leadership to sustain and enhance excellence in educational inquiry and graduate training. The Dean is responsible for the administration of the School, representing the School to outside constituencies, fundraising, and participating in University governance as a member of the University’s Executive Cabinet.
