Supplier Industrialization Engineer, DFx

What to Expect

We are looking for a DFx Engineer as the expert on design rules and manufacturing processes, sets the environment company wide and performs Design For Manufacturing analysis and studies to enable the manufacturability and ensure the product quality of the Tesla electronics product portfolio.

• Deploy, implement and maintain Design for Manufacturing (DFx) system, including design rules for all Tesla products
• As the Design For Manufacturing Expert, DFM Engineer will provide frequent feedback and mentorship to Design Engineers on production processes, printed circuit board technologies and design rules and process requirements
• Close interaction with PCB layout designers, EE Design Engineers to collaborate on creation of design rules and have dynamic bi‑directional feedback
• Assess, manage and develop PCB Suppliers and PCBA Contract Manufacturers on matters related to production process efficiency and quality
• Participate on cost reduction initiatives by exploring and suggesting process, material, design and new technologies
• Owner of RFQ's and contract management – ensure Non‑Disclosure Agreements, General Terms & Conditions, Piece Price Agreements, and other related contracts are negotiated, agreed and appropriately documented before business is initiated
• Drive negotiation for piece price and product development to ensure that Tesla’s pricing meets best‑landed‑cost expectations as well as Supplier Industrialization standards of Best‑In‑Class quality

• Degree in Electrical, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
• 5+ years of hands‑on experience performing DFM/DFA/DFT for PCB and PCBA
• Strong knowledge and understanding of industry specifications and standards especially IPC and JEDEC
• Experience in deployment and maintenance of DFM Software Applications like Valor, Vayo or similar
• Experience with CAD Librarian activities such as part generation from drawings and footprint and pad optimizations
• Subject Matter Expert on solder paste, stencil design, and stencil apertures; PCB panel design; and panel material vs cost vs capacity optimization
• Strong knowledge and understanding on design rules regarding Rigid, Flex, and HDI PCB manufacturing process, SMT, THT, Reflow, Conformal Coating, Underfill, Washing, Press Fit, Pin Insertion, and depanelization
• International travel is required to engage with manufacturing partners, sometimes on short notice;

$85,760 - $236,160/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job‑related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
