Role Description
Mercor is partnering with a leading AI research group to engage mathematics professionals in a high-impact project focused on training and refining cutting‑edge AI systems.
AI Tutor – Applied Math Specialist will play a key role in advancing the development of advanced AI models by providing high‑quality inputs, labels, and annotations using specialized software.
Key Responsibilities- Collaborate with technical teams to train models on mathematical reasoning, problem‑solving, and discussions.
- Refine annotation tools.
- Design challenging applied mathematics problems to enhance model performance.
- Contribute data in text, voice, and video formats, including annotations, audio recordings, or video sessions.
- Use proprietary software to label, annotate, and evaluate AI‑generated outputs related to applied mathematics.
- Support the delivery of high‑quality curated data for model training.
- Collaborate with technical staff to train new AI tasks and contribute to the development of innovative tools and technologies.
- Assist in improving the design of efficient annotation and feedback systems.
- Select and solve complex problems from applied mathematics fields such as probability, statistics, numerical analysis, optimization, operations research, dynamical systems, and data modeling.
- Interpret, analyze, and complete assignments based on evolving task instructions with precision and critical thinking.
- Master’s degree or PhD in Mathematics with a specialization in applied mathematics.
- Alternatively, a medal in the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) or a similar international math competition.
- Strong proficiency in both informal and professional English communication.
- Excellent analytical, research, and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and apply sound judgment with limited guidance.
- Passion for technological innovation and the advancement of applied mathematics in AI development.
- PhD in Mathematics with a focus on applied mathematics.
- Peer‑reviewed publications in recognized applied math journals.
- Prior experience teaching mathematics or tutoring in academic or AI training contexts.
- Location:
Palo Alto, CA (in‑office, 5 days/week) or fully remote. - Schedule:
9:00 am–5:30 pm PST for the first two weeks; then your local timezone thereafter. - Requirements:
Chromebook, Mac (macOS 11+), or Windows 10+ device; reliable smartphone access. - U.S. applicants:
Must reside outside of Wyoming and Illinois. - Visa sponsorship:
Not available.
- $45–100/hour for U.S.
-based professionals, depending on experience and location. - International pay rates available upon request.
- Full‑ role.
