OverviewDLA Piper’s Patent Development & Strategy group seeks exceptional law students for the 2026 summer program in Boston and Palo Alto. Candidates should be entrepreneurial, motivated to build legal skills, and have an interest in intellectual property with a science background.
What You’ll DoAs a summer associate, you’ll receive a tailored experience with pro‑bono opportunities, in‑depth training focused on your development, and network‑building social events. Our 10‑week program provides insight into a career at DLA Piper.
Essential Job Expectations- Effectively communicate, verbally and in writing, with clients, lawyers, business professionals, and third parties;
- Produce deliverables, answer phone calls, and reply to correspondence in an efficient and responsive manner;
- Provide timely, accurate, and quality work product;
- Successfully meet deadlines, expectations, and perform work duties as required;
- Foster positive work relationships;
- Comply with all firm policies and practices;
- Engage in both physical and sedentary activity, such as working at a computer for extended periods, participating in virtual conference calls, and attending meetings;
- Ability to work under pressure and manage competing demands in a fast‑paced environment;
- Perform all other duties, tasks or projects as assigned.
Law students must have completed the equivalent of two semesters of law school prior to the start of the 2026 Summer Program.
Physical DemandsSedentary work:
Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
Hybrid with in‑office expectations.
CompensationIn accordance with the Boston and California Pay Transparency Law, weekly pay for this position, if hired to work in Boston or California, is currently expected to be $4,326.
