The Clinical and Translational Research Unit (CTRU) is the leading academic center for Stanford Medicine and provides state‑of‑the‑art ambulatory and laboratory research services for over 200–300 clinical trials and research projects. The center is a multidisciplinary unit whose mission is to streamline, accelerate, and promote the translation of basic discoveries into practical solutions that improve human health.
Responsibilities- Ensure participant safety and maintain communication with families, caregivers, and clinicians.
- Provide clinical and administrative nursing support for research trials within the scope of practice.
- Collaborate with clinical staff, researchers, outside vendors, and other staff to administer treatments and study protocols; may coordinate multi‑site studies.
- Develop and manage the study budget, overseeing resources including funds, personnel, and equipment.
- Coordinate with the principal investigator to review protocol feasibility, budget projections, and staffing needs.
- Conduct participant evaluations according to protocol; assess adverse events and apply triage and judgment to determine the appropriate course of action.
- Oversee and administer medications and treatments per protocol for study participants.
- Comply with institutional policies, SOPs, and guidelines; prepare and submit required documentation to sponsors and regulatory authorities.
- Interpret complex protocols and regulatory requirements; manage essential regulatory documents and handle confidential information in accordance with HIPAA.
- Supervise RN 1s and non‑clinical research staff as needed.
- Support sponsor investigator research; other duties may be assigned.
- Oncology Nursing Society Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy certification.
- Adult Basic Life Support.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support.
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing or equivalent.
- Five years nursing experience, preferably including two years in a research setting.
- Ability to work with research subjects of all ages and backgrounds.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to convey medical and research information.
- Ability to identify confidential and sensitive information.
- Implementation of good clinical practices in all interactions with participants, families, and colleagues.
- Identification of adverse reactions to study treatments and accurate documentation.
- Implementation of study protocols with minimal supervision.
- Ability to provide work direction to research support staff.
- Understanding of good clinical practices and regulatory compliance.
- Experience with electronic data capture and database management.
- Performance of position functions with minimal supervision.
- Current license as a California Registered Nurse.
- Certified Research Administrator or Clinical Research Coordinator preferred.
- Current basic CPR certification.
- Fundamentals of Chemotherapy/Immunotherapy Administration certification.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification preferred.
- Frequent standing, walking, sitting, desk‑based computer tasks, telephone use, handwriting, sorting, filing.
- Occasional reach above shoulders, grasping forcefully, operating foot/hand controls.
- Rare kneeling, crawling, climbing ladders or scaffolds, scrubbing, sweeping, mopping, chopping, mixing, operating manual pipette.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid California non‑commercial class license and operate vehicle during daylight hours.
- May be required to work with, take precautions against, or be immunized against potentially hazardous agents.
- May be exposed to blood‑borne pathogens.
- Compliance with California Vehicle Code and Stanford University driving requirements.
- Interpersonal skills: ability to work well with Stanford colleagues, clients, and external organizations.
- Promotion of a culture of safety: commitment to personal responsibility, safety values, communication of safety concerns, use of safe behaviors.
- Compliance with applicable University policies and procedures, including personnel policies.
Expected pay range: $137,692 to $175,985 per annum.
