Position: Life Science Research Professional 2

Overview

The Skylar-Scott Laboratory within the Stanford University School of Medicine - Department of Bioengineering is seeking to hire a full‑time Life Science Research Professional 2 as an independent research fellow. This role focuses on the Health Enabling Advancements through Regenerative Tissue Printing (HEART) program supported by Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (ARPA‑H). The experimental goal is to test 3D printed valves ex vivo and develop an optimized in vivo valve model.

This Role, You Will
  • Independently conduct a portion of the research project(s) and recommend experimental design or research direction to the principal investigator.
  • Perform complex (lab and/or field) experiments to gather data for a major research project.
  • Interpret and analyze results, modify existing procedures and protocols, and develop new protocols when necessary.
  • Maintain an ongoing literature review and apply new findings to research and protocol development.
  • Contribute substantively to publication of findings and present ongoing work to colleagues and academic conferences.
  • Oversee supply, equipment budget, and lab maintenance, including chemical inventory and safety records.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance with health and safety departments.
  • Supervise staff or students, providing technical resource support.
Education & Experience – Required
  • Bachelor's degree in a related scientific field with two years of relevant work experience, or a Master’s degree in a related scientific field.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities – Required
  • Comprehensive understanding of scientific principles.
  • General computer skills and ability to learn scientific applications.
  • Strong analytical skills and excellent judgment.
  • Ability to maintain detailed experiment records.
  • Ability to work under deadlines with general guidance.
  • Excellent organizational skills and accurate completion of detailed work.
Education & Experience – Desired
  • Three years of relevant work experience with 3D printing, ex vivo and in vivo modeling research, or heart-related research.
Working Conditions
  • May require working in close proximity to blood borne pathogens.
  • May require work in an environment where animals are used for teaching and research.
  • May require work with or be in areas where hazardous materials and/or infectious diseases are present.
  • Personal protective equipment required (gloves, safety glasses, respirator, etc.).
  • May require extended or unusual work hours based on research requirements and business needs.
Physical Requirements
  • Frequently stand, walk, twist, bend, stoop, squat, grasp lightly, use fine manipulation, perform desk‑based computer tasks, write by hand, lift, carry, push and pull objects over 40 pounds.
  • Occasionally sit, kneel, crawl, reach above shoulders, sort and file paperwork or parts.
  • Rarely climb, scrub, sweep, mop, or operate hand and foot controls.
  • Must have correctable vision and ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Work can be in dusty, dirty, odorous environments and may involve repetitive motion.

Pay Range

The expected pay range for this position is $85,376 to $99,581 per annum.
