We are seeking a Staff Scientist to design, develop, supervise, and implement novel computational approaches for genomics. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership across multiple projects, lead independent research, and mentor trainees.
Duties and Responsibilities- Propose, conceptualize, design, implement, and develop solutions for complex applications independently.
- Supervise and mentor PhD students and postdocs, overseeing all research phases.
- Engage in long‑term strategic planning.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical problems.
- Lead projects for special systems and application development in areas of complex problems.
- Contribute to manuscript preparation and revisions as lead or co‑author.
- Contribute to grant preparation.
- Participate in scientific meetings and journal clubs.
- Other duties may be assigned.
- Proven track record of developing state‑of‑the‑art computational methods from conceptualization through manuscript preparation.
- Outstanding technical skills in machine learning and/or statistical methods with experience developing new approaches.
- Training and research experience (preferably postdoctoral) in functional genomics, single‑cell genomics, or statistical genetics.
- Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and relevant experience.
- Expertise in designing, developing, testing, and deploying applications.
- Proficiency with application design and data modeling.
- Ability to define and solve logical problems for highly technical applications.
- Effective communication skills with both technical and non‑technical clients.
- Ability to lead activities on structured team development projects.
- Ability to select, adapt, and effectively use a variety of programming methods.
- Knowledge of the application domain.
Desk‑based computer tasks; occasional standing/walking; minimal lifting (≤10 lb). May work extended hours, evenings, weekends. Work in‑person daily on campus.
Compensation and BenefitsPay range: $131,992–$160,555 per annum. Stanford provides a comprehensive rewards package (details available at the Cardinal at Work website).
