AI Engineer (Applied/Software)
The Role
Boson AI builds real-time speech and multimodal AI that makes talking to AI feel like talking to people. Our Higgs models listen, speak, and see. Higgs Realtime is a speech-to-speech API with tool calling and support for 100+ languages, and it is drop-in compatible with the OpenAI Realtime API. Higgs TTS 3 is an expressive, open-weight text-to-speech model with zero-shot voice cloning.
Higgs Avatar turns a single image into a streaming, talking video. Thousands of developers already build on our open models on Git Hub and Hugging Face.
We are hiring our first Developer Relations Manager to own the developer journey, from first hearing about Higgs to shipping a production voice agent on it. This is a hands-on role. You will build with our models, explain them clearly, find where developers get stuck, and work with research and engineering to fix it.
You should be as comfortable writing Python against a streaming Web Socket API as you are writing a tutorial, triaging a Git Hub issue, or demoing a voice agent live on stage. You will start as a senior individual contributor with real ownership, and you'll have room to build a team as the program grows.
The role is based at our Santa Clara HQ on a hybrid schedule, with at least three days a week in the office. Expect up to 20% travel for conferences, hackathons, and partner events.
What You’ll Do- Make the first hour great. Own the quick starts, notebooks, sample apps, and API walkthroughs that take a developer from an API key to first audio in minutes, and then on to a production-quality application
- Build reference applications that show what Higgs makes possible: real-time voice and avatar agents, STT + LLM + TTS pipelines, multilingual and expressive speech, streaming low-latency apps, and drop-in migrations from the OpenAI Realtime API
- Own our ecosystem integrations, including Pipecat, Live Kit, Twilio and SIP telephony, and SGLang and vLLM. Take each one from first prototype to maintained, documented, and announced
- Be our technical voice in public. Write blog posts, record demo videos and live streams, give talks, and run workshops and hackathons
- Show up where developers are, on Git Hub, Hugging Face, X, Reddit, and Linked In. Answer questions, triage issues on our open-source repos, and build a community around Boson AI, including a home for it
- Help developers make good tradeoffs: quality vs. latency vs. cost, open weights vs. hosted API, self-hosting vs. managed, and how to handle streaming, tool calling, turn-taking, and multilingual behavior
- Be the voice of developers inside Boson. Turn recurring friction into prioritized, tracked fixes with product, research, and engineering. That friction includes unclear docs, missing SDKs, API rough edges, deployment blockers, pricing questions, and model limitations
- Make every launch land. Own the developer side of model and API releases: launch-day docs, samples, release notes, demos, and community follow-through
- Define and report the metrics that show what is working, such as time to first audio, activation, integration adoption, and community growth
- A developer who is new to Boson can go from signup to a working real-time voice agent in under 15 minutes, and you have the data to show it
- A gallery of maintained reference apps and integration recipes covers the most common voice-agent stacks
- There is a steady publishing cadence and an active community channel where developers get fast, accurate answers
- A regular developer-feedback report drives product and engineering priorities, and its top friction points are fixed
- 5+ years in developer relations, developer advocacy, solutions engineering, or software engineering, with a…
