Job Description- Client is seeking an experienced and dedicated Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) to oversee and enforce safety protocols on active Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) construction sites.
- The SSHO will ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local safety regulations—including EM 385-1-1 and OSHA standards.
- Ensure compliance with the site-specific Accident Prevention Plan (APP) and all applicable safety policies.
- Conduct daily safety inspections and audits of work areas, equipment, and operational practices.
- Identify potential hazards and implement corrective measures to maintain compliance with safety standards.
- Lead daily safety meetings, toolbox talks, and training sessions for all site personnel.
- Investigate incidents, near misses, and safety violations; develop and document corrective and preventive action plans.
- Maintain complete and accurate safety documentation, including logs, permits, inspection reports, and training records.ග
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, EM 385-1-1, and Client’s corporate safety policies and procedures.
- Coordinate with subcontractors to verify their safety programs and training meet project-specific requirements.
- Serve as the primary on-site point of contact for all safety-related matters.
- Collaborate with project teams to identify hazards and develop proactive risk mitigation strategies.
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety or a related field, or a minimum of five (5) years of EHS experience in construction safety, preferably on federal or large-scale commercial projects required.
- OSHA 30-Hour Construction Certification required.
- Must possess—or be willing and able to obtain within 6 months—a CHST, ASP, or CSP certification.
- EM 385-1-1 training and prior experience strongly preferred.
- Current First Aid/CPR certification.
- Thorough knowledge of federal, state, and local safety regulations.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Proven ability to work independently and make sound decisions under pressure.
- Experience working with government contracts and compliance standards (e.g., USACE, NAVFAC).
