Eye Center of North Florida was formed in 1999 and is one of the most established eye care practices in the Florida Panhandle. ECNF offers Lipiflow Dry Eye Treatment, Low Vision Rehabilitation, Optos Retinal Imaging, Macular Degeneration genetic testing (Macula Risk Testing), cataract surgery, refractive procedures, cosmetic specialties, contact lenses and an optical shop.
The Optical Technician must be able to work with a diverse base of customers (pediatric, adolescent, and adult) by delivering quality optical care and providing outstanding and friendly customer service to establish customer loyalty. The role includes assisting patients with eyeglasses ordering and fittings, and demonstrating strong sales knowledge to determine patient needs and recommend specific eyewear accessories or enhancements.
Responsibilities- Interpret prescriptions written by ophthalmologists and optometrists
- Communicate with physicians regarding questions or concerns about prescriptions and eye-related issues
- Measure bridge and eye size, temple length, vertex distance, pupillary distance, and optical centers using measuring devices
- Assist in selecting frames according to style and color, ensuring coordination with facial features and optical prescriptions
- Recommend lenses, coatings, and other lens enhancements; select frames to suit patient needs
- Verify finished lenses are ground to specifications
- Create work orders for lab technicians to ensure proper lens delivery
- Heat, shape, or bend plastic or metal frames to ensure proper fit
- Repair broken or damaged frames
- Educate patients on proper wear and care of eyeglasses and contact lenses
- Determine current lens prescriptions when necessary using lensometers or lens analyzers and mark up progressives
- Keep track of orders, prescriptions, and inventory
- Arrange and maintain displays of optical merchandise
- Attend training workshops/meetings as scheduled
- Other duties as assigned
- Associates degree or High School Diploma/GED
- 2 years of eyecare experience required
- Eye–hand coordination, manual dexterity, agility, color vision, and depth perception with visual acuity correctable to 20/25 while fitting eyeglasses and contacts
- Intermediate computer skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Excellent interpersonal skills and professional interaction with individuals at all levels
- Good judgment in responding to inquiries and knowing when to escalate
- Self-motivated with strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple tasks within tight time frames and adapt to priority changes
- Team player with ability to build cross-functional collaboration
- Preferred:
Apprentice Dispensing Optician License, ABO and/or NCLE
