Position: PATIENT OBSERVATION ASSISTANT (PART TIME)

Patient Observation Assistant (Part Time)

Location: Ascension Sacred Heart Bay Medical – 615 North Bonita Avenue, Panama City, FL 32401.

Schedule: Part‑time. Monday through Friday, 7:00 am – 3:30 pm, 3:00 pm – 11:30 pm, 11:00 pm – 7:30 am, including alternate weekends and holidays (details upon interview).

Compensation: $16.00 per hour.

Required Experience: None necessary.

Job Summary

The Patient Observation Assistant provides visual and audible monitoring of assigned patients under the direction of a Registered Nurse and unit manager, ensuring patient safety and responding to medical distress or at‑risk behaviors.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Visually and audibly monitor the assigned patient’s condition and behavior at all times.
  • Complete observation reports at established intervals.
  • Remain at the bedside unless relieved by an appropriate staff member.
  • Verbally redirect patients engaging in at‑risk behaviors.
  • Seek help or advice promptly when a patient appears medically distressed or poses a threat, and alert the assigned medical professionals.
  • Assist in identifying and reporting patient safety issues; remove visible hazards and report as appropriate.
  • Help calm and reorient patients experiencing agitation or confusion.
  • Accompany patients when diagnostic testing is required.
  • Provide basic patient care assistance (e.g., dietary tray, basic positioning, wheelchair rides) under nurse supervision.
  • Respond rapidly to emergencies, special needs, and other urgent situations.
  • Adhere to department policies, safety codes, and confidentiality requirements.
  • Assist other associates as directed and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Current CPR/AED or basic Life Support (BLS‑HCP) certification within 30 days of hire (if required).
  • Ability to walk or stand for prolonged periods; require bending, stooping, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • One to two years of previous experience preferred.
