Position: 5 axis Machine Programmer - (prototypes, Millwork, clearable)

Overview

5 axis Machine Programmer - (prototypes, Millwork, clearable) at Akima Systems Engineering (ASE). The role involves providing support to Naval Surface Warfare Service (NSWC) for the Machine Shop, creating prototypes from concept to deliverable. Projects are varied and unique from one assignment to the next.

Responsibilities
  • Perform machine shop operations such as sawing, turning, milling, grinding, and heat treatment of metallic and non-metallic materials.
  • Manufacture parts from castings, forgings, and other raw stocks to specifications of drawings per the customer work order, including compliance with military specifications or military standards where cited.
  • Use various Tool and Die Maker s hand tools and precision measuring instruments, working to close tolerances, heat-treat metal parts and finished tools/dies, and fit/assemble parts to prescribed tolerances.
  • Operate conventional and CNC machine tools and their attachments to perform machine operations.
  • Provide training in Mastercam or available programming software as required to demonstrate proficiency.
  • Read blueprints and interpret drawings or specifications to fabricate parts or products.
  • Program cutter paths using Mastercam, determine feeds and speeds, and select/shape cutting tools and inserts.
  • Perform precision handwork to fit, finish, and assemble machined parts and equipment.
  • Use precision measuring devices to determine required equipment and methods to complete tasks.
  • Provide recommendations for modernized technologies or when machining issues arise.
  • Specialize in programming CNC machines, including writing and editing G-code.
  • Ensure shop area cleanliness and comply with weekly cleanups as per shop policy.
  • Receive written work assignments from the Machine Shop Work Leader or designated representative.
  • Review blueprints and materials for discrepancies to complete assembly.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with shop math, metals knowledge, blueprint reading, and geometric dimensioning and tolerance standards as required.
Qualifications
  • US Citizen able to obtain and maintain a CUI Clearance.
  • High school degree.
  • One or more years of experience with CNC lathes, including:
  • Experience with 5-axis simultaneous operations programming.
  • Experience in CNC programming, operation and setup of fixtures.
  • Programming experience in CNC and computer-aided machining software.
  • Ability to utilize Feature Cam, Master CAM, CAD/CAM software to generate machine instructions directing numerical control machines along cutting paths.
  • Navy Crane certification and Forklift certification.
  • Basic conventional machinist knowledge and experience.
Desirable/Additional
  • Programming utilizing Mastercam.
