Akima Systems Engineering (ASE) is looking to hire a Rigger to join the team supporting Naval Support Activity Panama City (NSWC PC) Rigging Shop. The required capability level is comparable to the WG 5210‑10 journeyman level. You will be part of the safe and efficient movement of materials by the use of weight‑handling equipment in direct support of the daily operations of NSWC PC and other commands aboard Naval Support Activity Panama City, as well as providing services to military and contract vessels will perform all essential duties and responsibilities at the direction of the site Project Manager.
Overtime is available and 30–40% travel is part of this job.
- Fabrication of slings, bridles, fabric covers, harnesses, wire rope or fiber towing eyes, etc. per blueprints in accordance with assigned engineering drawing tolerances.
- Perform fabricating services: gather required materials, lay out parts, determine needed equipment, cut materials to required size, prep materials, fit components, assemble to required final dimensions, and visually inspect finished parts to ensure standards and tolerances are met.
- Tasked with mooring test barges, deployment and recovery of inert mine fields and/or underwater cables, and support of NAVAIR testing as required for NSWC PC project support.
- Tasking may also include load testing and certification of Weight Handling Equipment (WHE) and lifting hardware.
- Assemble rigging to lift and move equipment or material in manufacturing plant or shipyard, selecting cables, ropes, pulleys, winches, blocks, and sheaves according to load; attach pulleys and blocks to fixed overhead structures; attach load with grappling devices to crane hook; give directions to Bridge‑or‑Gantry‑Crane Operator or Hoisting Engineer engaged in hoisting and moving loads to ensure safety of workers and materials, using hand signals, loudspeaker, or telephone.
- The Rigger sets up, braces, and rigs hoisting equipment, using hand tools and power wrenches, splices rope and wire cables to make or repair slings and tackle, and may direct workers engaged in hoisting machinery and equipment into ships.
- Moving office furniture and equipment is also included as possible tasking.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Overtime will be required on a regular basis.
- 30–40% travel may be required.
- High School diploma.
- 5 years related experience.
- Must be a US citizen that can possess and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
- Must be able to work overtime (OT) as needed.
- Must be able to travel 30–40% if needed both CONUS and OCONUS (current US passport preferred).
- Must be able to obtain Navy CAT III Crane course certification.
- Must be able to obtain Forklift Operator certification.
- Experience at the WG 5210‑10 journeyman level.
- Desirable CDL qualification.
- Requires work aboard vessels e occasional lifting and moving of office equipment, furniture, and supplies may be required.
- Some lifting up to 75 pounds required.
- Nature of job also requires considerable walking as well as exposure to electricity and electronic equipment.
