Position

Description:

Laborers have general responsibility to provide support and assistance to the other skilled crafts working on the project. They provide support for the form carpenters and for the concrete operation in general, ironworkers/rodbusters involved in installing reinforcing steel, and masons involved in the installation of block and brickwork. This is a safety sensitive position.

Responsibilities
  • Essential Duties include preparation of areas for the placement of concrete (final excavation, grading for floor slabs).
  • Assemble concrete forms and assist in placement of form panels.
  • Handle the concrete bucket suspended from a crane and spread concrete evenly after pouring.
  • Strip concrete forms after curing and transport them for storage.
  • Assist concrete finishers with power trowels and power screeds.
  • Support block masons by handling and transporting cement, lime, sand, and grout; stock blocks and bricks.
  • Assist carpenters with handling and setting door frames, including transport to work areas and placement.
  • Load/unload and identify materials, machinery, and tools; distribute site materials per project plans and keep the site swept and well maintained.
  • Promote a safe work environment; communicate jobsite hazards; help secure the jobsite at day’s end and store materials properly.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Follow safe work practices in accordance with the Hensel Phelps safety and health program.
  • Must be able to take initiative and have keen attention to detail; able to follow instructions.
  • Workers must provide their own safety footwear.
  • Effective and professional communication with co-workers and stakeholders.
  • Strong mathematical reasoning and quantitative skills.
  • Must be reliable and punctual.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in construction layout, blueprint reading and shop drawing reading.
  • OSHA 10 Certification.
  • CPR & First Aid Certification.
Physical Work Classification & Demands
  • Heavy Work:
    Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 20 pounds constantly to move objects.
  • Walking, kneeling, sitting, crouching, reaching, stooping, climbing, and other dynamic movements; ability to work from heights.
  • May operate a computer or tablet and office machinery; read blueprints and field measurements.
  • Environmental: exposed to high/low temperatures, noisy environments, outdoor elements, and dust/chemicals; respirator use with medical and fit testing.
  • Prolonged use of jackhammers, pavement breakers, wheelbarrows, and hand/arm tools.
