Underground Utility Locator

Salary: $21.00 per hour

Our Underground Utility Locators are responsible, self‑motivated individuals who enjoy the freedom of working outdoors. We will train the right individuals who are committed to safety, comfortable working on their own, pay close attention to detail, and take pride in completing a job well done.

• Drive a company vehicle from home to job sites in response to routine tickets, emergencies, and relocations.
• Utilize mapping tools and locating equipment to find underground utilities—including electric, gas, telephone, and other communication lines.
• Indicate utility locations with paint and flags, and communicate relevant information to excavation personnel or authorities.
• Respond to after‑hours emergency call‑outs according to the established rotation schedule.

• Computer skills
• Valid driver’s license in the applicable state of employment
• Ability to work overtime when duties cannot be performed within a normal schedule
• Compliance with Vannguard’s Drug‑Free Workplace Program and completion of pre‑employment drug screening
• Self‑management and timely communication with supervisors and clients

• Drive 50–300+ miles daily as required by the assigned geographic locating area
• Get in and out of a vehicle 50+ times a day
• Stand and walk long distances (1+ mile) over uneven terrain in all weather conditions
• Sit for long periods while driving
• Lift and/or move 50–150 pounds
• Work outdoors in all weather conditions

• High school or equivalent (required)
• Driver’s license (required)

• Multiple locations

• Ideal for military‑experienced candidates

Full‑time

This position is outdoors and involves minimal contact and interaction with others.

• 10‑hour shift
• Monday to Friday
• On call
• Overtime available

• Computer skills: 1 year (preferred)
• Utility locating: 1 year (preferred)
