Interact with Papillion’s younger community members as a Recreation Specialist. Execute fun, interactive, and exciting daily activities for summer camps, youth sport clinics, and a variety of seasonal special events. Promote safe and positive interactions among participants and actively participate in daily activities. Opportunities are also available to participate in various seasonal special events.

REPORTS TO

Recreation Coordinator

PURPOSE OF POSITION

Responsible for planning, developing, and teaching recreation programs for youth and adult populations. Assist in facilitating a wide variety of special events and activities. Requires varied hours including evenings and weekends.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Responsible for planning, developing, coordinating, and teaching recreation programs for youth and adults through various activities. Prepare materials, organize activities such as art and crafts, games, sports, and special events. Maintain a daily attendance record, supervise all participants, and ensure adherence to safety regulations. Represent the Recreation Department positively, enforce rules, and report safety or incident issues promptly. Assist with pool evacuation as needed.

Communicate incidents and resolve complaints. Establish and maintain positive public relations with community groups and the general public.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE, AND ABILITY

Ability to learn and apply skills and techniques in planning and teaching recreation programs. Detect health and safety hazards and apply precautions. Learn and apply city policies related to emergency situations and public inquiries. Understand facility rules and regulations. Perform tasks efficiently while managing interruptions and stressful situations. Effectively communicate verbally and in writing in English. Build and maintain effective working relationships.

ESSENTIAL

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND LICENSING
  • Experience working with children or other recreation programs preferred.
  • Continuing education in physical education, recreation, or related field preferred.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

Work is performed outdoors; requires walking, standing, kneeling, bending, reaching, stooping, and lifting supplies. Must work in sunny, hot, and humid conditions. Hand-eye coordination required for equipment operation. Noise level is typically loud. Requires extensive interaction with the public.
