Overview
Medical Technologist (Laboratory) – Full‑time, flexible, based at Bergen New Bridge Medical Center, Paramus, NJ. The role focuses on specimen processing, blood bank support, and instrument operation across chemistry, hematology, blood bank, and microbiology labs.
Responsibilities- Receive, process, aliquot, and label clinical specimens per workstation protocols.
- Draw blood samples from inpatients and outpatients as requested.
- Maintain accurate computerized log entries for specimens received and processed.
- Prepare standards, controls, and reagents according to established formulas.
- Operate automated instrumentation: start‑up, data entry, verification, quality control, shut‑down, and linearity checks.
- Maintain manual records, reports, and statistics; log equipment maintenance.
- Notify supervisor of instrumentation problems or impending shortages of supplies.
- Call critical results to nursing units, ER, ICU, etc., documenting calls in LIS.
- Follow departmental policies for quality control, safety, environmental and infection control.
- Assist nursing units and other clinical areas with test result inquiries.
- Serve as lead technologist for assigned shifts and support overall department objectives.
- Participate in mandatory annual educational programs and in‑service meetings.
- Perform ad‑hoc duties as assigned to support department and organization.
- Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Technology or equivalent (three years of experience in NJ or certification).
- Good oral and written communication, interpersonal skills.
- Basic data entry skills preferred.
- Heartsaver/CPR certification preferred; ASCP or other laboratory certification preferred.
- English fluency (second language preferred).
- Article 58 of NJ DOH regulations for Medical Technologist (BSMT program).
- Or 90‑hour medical technology school + 1‑year training.
- Or bachelor + 1 year experience or training.
- Or NJ CQ as of 6/30/94 with at least 3 years experience since 1989.
Laboratory – Chemistry, Hematology, Blood Bank, Microbiology. Mainly sedentary with manual dexterity. Requires protective clothing (gloves, lab coat, goggles/face shield).
Salary & Benefits$31.00 - $35.00 per hour plus evening, night, and weekend differential pay ($2.65 eve/night, $2.00 weekend). Comprehensive benefits include medical, dental, vision, paid time off, holiday schedule, tuition reimbursement, and continuing education programs.
