The Sr. Consultant, Engagement Management is a billable, client‑facing role within our consulting firm. This position requires direct interaction with clients to drive project success while ensuring high-quality delivery. As part of a consulting environment, the Engagement Manager will be responsible for managing client relationships, overseeing project execution, and contributing to revenue through billable work. You will have the opportunity to build on your proven leadership skills and leverage your interest in inspiring others, building strong relationships, and creating a true followership.
You’d be joining a team of passionate, forward‑thinking engineers and data scientists who are charting a new course. In a collaborative team setting, you’ll work closely with others but also operate autonomously with little direction. Your superior problem‑solving, analytical, quantitative, and conceptual thinking skills, coupled with strong interpersonal and communication skills, will ensure successful client projects and team performance. We are looking for people experienced with project, program, and people‑management skills, typically leading a team of 3–5 consultants on projects and helping our clients in the private, public, and social sectors solve some of their most pressing data challenges. You will also be responsible for managing the team of Engagement Managers will work with a range of experts in Hakkōda— from data scientists to architects to software and app designers.
The ideal candidate will have hands‑on experience working with various data models. Strong communication skills and a proven track record for coaching and growing individuals is essential for this role. As of April 2025, Hakkoda has been acquired by IBM and will be integrated into the IBM organization. Your recruitment process will be managed by IBM. IBM will be the hiring entity.
This role can be performed from anywhere in the US.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or other relevant fields
- 5+ years in progressive technical roles – including enterprise‑level project or program management experience
- 2+ years experience in management positions
- Fluency in English is a must
- Experience leading Agile projects including experience working in Confluence and Jira;
Scrum Master Certification preferred - Experience working with product owners / business application owners and development teams to understand business and user requirements
- Build and strengthen client relationships to achieve long‑term partnerships
- Develop a thorough understanding of our products and service offerings to better align to client needs
- Exceptional analytical and quantitative problem‑solving skills
- Strong stakeholder management, presentation, and communication skills
- Initiative taker, eager to break new ground, create opportunities for others
- Outstanding project and process management skills with eye toward continuous process improvement
- Superb client service skills with both creative and analytical mind‑set
- Ensure KPIs, CSAT are being met
- Knowledgeable on cloud technologies (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and data engineering concepts
