The respiratory therapist provides respiratory care treatments and services as specified by a physician and/or departmental policies. Interacts as a team with physicians, RNs, NAs, USs, patients and their families to develop a plan of care. Communicates with ancillary departments to provide services to patients and their families. Has contact with a variety of patients of all ages (infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric), as well as the mentally and physically challenged.

• Graduate of an accredited Respiratory Therapy program
• Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) preferred or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) certification by the NBRC
• Current Illinois license for Respiratory Care Practitioner required
• Current BLS required
• ACLS required within 30 days of employment
• PALS required within 3 months of employment
• 6 months RRT experience preferred

• Administers respiratory and pulmonary treatments, PFTs, EKGs, ABGs according to established policies and procedures.
• Complete and accurate documentation of pertinent information in patient record.
• Functions within regulatory standards for IDPH, JCAHO, and OSHA.
• Inspect, test, disassemble, clean, reassemble, and troubleshoot respiratory equipment as required.
• Provides teaching regarding respiratory home care and cardiopulmonary rehabilitation.
• Communicates with interdisciplinary services about patient needs as indicated.
• Maintains competencies of job related duties; infection control, OSHA blood borne pathogens, TB/respiratory protection plan, policies and procedures, Disaster Manual, Safety Manual.
• Is willing to be flexible to meet patient care needs, cooperates to provide coverage when needed, cross trains to other areas, accepts assignments willingly.
