Horizon Health is a Critical Access, Rural Health Facility with 25 inpatient beds in Paris, IL, and outpatient clinic settings including Family Practice and Specialty Clinics throughout the region. Serving residents of Edgar County since 1968, we provide emergency services, community education, and outpatient care.
EMT role:
Emergency Medical Technicians-Basic (EMT-B) respond to emergency calls, deliver immediate care to the critically ill or injured, and transport patients to medical facilities.
The EMT-B travels the ambulance to the location given by dispatch, uses the most expeditious route, and observes all traffic ordinances and regulations regarding emergency vehicle operation.
Position Requirements- High School Graduate or Equivalent
- Current licensure as an Emergency Medical Technician in Illinois, or possession of the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) Certification with the expectation that reciprocal licensure will be obtained upon hire.
- Current BLS/CPR Certification via the American Heart Association (AHA)
- Provide pre-hospital basic life support care from initial contact until the patient is admitted to the accepting medical facility, and maintain thorough patient care documentation.
- Practice within scope of practice defined by state regulations and the Carle Regional EMS System Protocol (CREMS).
- Maintain competency in knowledge and psychomotor skills by participating in ongoing laboratory and clinical experiences.
- Maintain documentation of required licensure, certifications, continuing education, drivers license and safety training, OSHA and HIPAA training, clinical rotations, and advanced procedures.
- Knowledgeable in the use and routine maintenance of all equipment and supplies used; report medical equipment failures and perform initial steps for repair as directed.
- Maintain adequate supplies onboard ambulances and keep the ambulance clean and orderly for rapid response.
- Maintain positive interpersonal relationships with colleagues, EMS representatives, hospitals, and the public.
- Participate in patient and referring institution follow-up.
- Participate in public relations, marketing, and education activities.
- Act as a medical team member; complete necessary documentation.
- Comply with safety standards to ensure safety of self, medical personnel, patient, and equipment.
- Perform skills and procedures commensurate with level of licensure, as approved by Medical Director(s).
- Serve as a role model, educator, and clinical resource.
- Act as a preceptor or participate in orientation of new employees or students as assigned.
- Participate in continuing and outreach education programs.
- Participate regularly in departmental activities, projects, and committees.
- Attend and participate in meetings per departmental guidelines.
- Participate in departmental quality improvement activities and undertake assigned projects.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
$15.25 per hour to $20.98 per hour (rate based on applicable years of experience). There is built-in overtime scheduled into the shift structure that positively affects pay rates.
